My Thoughts On…Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
Bloody rollicking mainstream blockbuster. Essentially silly, until you go with it, and then this social warning is unveiled that has parallels with Silent Running, in that it’s about man’s desire to control nature, and our naive arrogance of what we think is ‘right’ or ‘enough’ only for it to evolve beyond our control.
Some nice touches of nodding toward the original, some great action sequences, James Franco unsure of what type of film he is in and being all the more enjoyable for it.
Like Silent Running, it made me angry, and is constructed so you can’t help butempathise with the animals over humanity. It’s a broad, preachy statement film, delivered with verve.
Oh, and Serkis, you can’t expect a nom for Best Actor, because you are not the only component of that performance. The way WETA captured the personality of Caesar, admittedly from your performance, but still, puts them on a par as creators of that performance, exceptional CGI and serves the story brilliantly.
Tom ‘Draco Malfoy’ Felton has a lovely career ahead of him playing snivelling brats too, he must be very excited.
Fantastic blockbuster hokum, much like the original. Lest we forget, they don’t come much more popcorn chewingly fun and entertaining than Heston’s outing.
