Albums of 2011: 10 - 2
As with songs, here’s my favourite albums this year, counted down to 2. Fave one up tomorrow.
10. Suuns - Zeroes QC
Thanks GJ for this head’s up.
9. Cut Copy - Zonoscope
One of the best albums to write to I’ve found. Perfect for getting into a creative flow.
8. Explosions In The Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
It’s been a good year for me and this band. Saw them live at The Roundhouse, and my film named after one of their songs has been my most successful yet. And this is a great record.
7. Hanni El Khatib - Will The Guns Come Out
This came out of nowhere, well, a new blog I’m following (Rollo & Grady) to completely slay me in a lower than lofi White Stripes/Black Keys way.
6. TV On The Radio - Nine Types Of Light
They can do no wrong. Another top notch piece of work.
5. White Denim - D
Finally saw them live and they didn’t disappoint. Phenomenal live band and another eclectic, energetic and damn fine lp from a band fast becoming one of my favourites of all time.
4. Fionn Regan - 100 Acres Of Sycamore
Perfect record for my new life of bird watching, dog walking, nature appreciating. Sublime and delicate and intricate.
3. Josh T. Pearson - Last Of The Country Gentlemen
Epic. Shattering. Stark. Unshakeable.
2. Tom Waits - Bad As Me
The badass record of the year. So, so good. Made me smile a lot. Inspiring and influential and proof that growing old doesn’t mean your records have to suck. This kicks so many young bands in the face with its brilliance.
